An experimental investigation on the effect of incorporating graphene nanoplatelets on the low-velocity impact behavior of fiber metal laminates

In this study, experimental investigations are implemented to evaluate the effect of incorporation graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) on low-velocity impact behavior composites and fiber metal laminates (FMLs). The hand layup technique is employed fabricate composite specimens FML panels with 2/1 configuration. Impact response damage patterns unmodified modified subjected various energy levels compared. results reveal that incorporating 0.2 wt% GNPs strengthens resistance FMLs so possess higher bending stiffness, peak load, absorption SEA compared unreinforced ones. Visual inspections SEM images exhibit inclusion enhances adhesion between resin/fibers as well plies, thereby reducing area increasing penetration threshold FMLs. addition, reinforcing considerably improves in comparison composites.
